The legendary fall from the clock tower in Project A (1984)

Intro

If anyone was asked to name three of the greatest stunts that Jackie has done, I'm sure this stunt fall from the clock tower will certainly be in the list. It's the most unbelievable, almost a legendary stunt.
It has been said that Jackie himself made at least three attempts of falls for this particular scene. And I guess people believe that since you can see three different shots in the movie - two during the film and one in the outtakes. But the only fall filmed in one continuous shot in which Jackie's face ( in pain!) can be seen is the second fall. Both shots of the first fall and the third (the one in the outtakes) do not actually show Jackie's face. So how many times did Jackie fall then?

Kenji Tanigaki, a Japanese stuntman working in Hong Kong, wrote a remarkable book a few years ago, which covers a lot of detail on the Hong Kong action movies industry. In the book, he mentioned that the third fall (the one in the outtakes) was done by Chow Yun-Kin, one of the members of Jackie's action team at that time. Surprising information, isn't it?
While the question on whether Kenji is supplying the correct information or not remains unanswered, he has also said the same thing in seminars and talkshows, and he sounds like he's pretty sure about it.
And still at this point, it is fair to consider that both Jackie and Kenji holds the same amount of credibility in their words. As Jackie says, he could have done all the three falls we see in the movie. Or take Kenji's words and maybe the fall in the outtakes was done by Chow Yun-Kin, not Jackie Chan. We simply can't prove either opinion.

So, a great deal of mystery still covers up much of the issue on this magnificent stunt.

However, as KingKing (A Japanesese JC fan and pal) and I had a massive investigation into this stunt, a new side of this stunt eventually started to show up.....
