The motorcycle stunt by Michelle Yeoh in Supercop (1993
AKA Police Story 3)
Jackie
found a great partner to work with, Michelle Yeoh, a former Miss Malaysia,
for one of his best film series. In Supercop, Yeoh performed some great
stunts and showed that she can handle kung-fu action almost as well as,
or perhaps even better than, Chan. Right at the final climax of this third
piece of the Police story series, Michelle rides a motorcycle at full
throttle and jumps onto a moving train. Jackie didn't want her to do this
stunt without using a double since it is extremely dangerous and nor did
director Stanley Tong. So what did they do? I mean, it is Michelle herself
doing the stunt on the screen, so? Well, here again comes the help of
wires.
I cannot see any wires attached to her in the movie but in one of the
books I have, there is a picture of director Stanley Tong testing the
adjustment of the wires for this action. (Click on the image for a larger
one. The caption reads something like ; A rehearsal scene of the motorcycle
stunt for Michelle from 'Police Story 3'. Stanley Tong, the director himself,
is checking the wires.)
In the outtakes, there are a couple of shots of Michelle flying off the
train and landing into a bunch of cardboard boxes laid for cushioning.
